A new video captured at Gamescom shows Sega's 3D platformer and this mini-game in which we can see the return of Big the Cat, a character beloved by fans of the franchise whose first appearance was in Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast in 1999.
The quality is not very good, but it allows you to see Sonic with a fishing rod in a test very similar to the one we know in many other titles: throw the bait where the fish are concentrated. For each catch, Sonic receives a token or voucher, which he can then exchange for helpful items during the adventure.
Sonic Frontiers will be the saga's first open-world experience. We can freely explore the archipelago, discover secrets, and complete side missions because not everything will be running while we break things. We can assume that other iconic characters from the franchise will return and possibly have their mini-games as a result of this new information.
Sega recently confirmed that Sonic Frontiers launches on November 8 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Last week they released a preview of its main theme, I am Here.
It's unclear whether this will be a one-time mini-game to which we can return whenever we want, but Big's presence and love of fishing are a nod to Sonic Adventure, and fans are loving it.
Big is a large anthropomorphic purple cat who lives in the depths of the Mystic Ruins. Though imposing in stature, Big is gentle and quiet, somewhat goofy, but with a heart of gold. He also possesses incredible strength and stamina, making him one of Sonic's strongest allies.
