Ubisoft devs are leaving Assassin's Creed Red after abuse allegations

The workers denounce outbursts of verbal and physical violence

Thanks to a report from news portal The Gamer, it has come to light that many workers are leaving the Assassin's Creed Red project. According to the information, this is thanks to the project leader who has been accused of violence and harassment.

Seems like a worker from the A Better Ubisoft initiative has shared that some developers at Ubisoft Quebec have asked not to work on Assassin’s Creed Project Red or in extreme cases to leave the project and Ubisoft altogether because of creative director Jonathan Dumont.

This is not a surprise as Dumont has several reports of harassment, most since 2020, for allegedly verbally abusing and making sexual advances toward his women and new starters.

Appears to be worst than ever

This time, the anonymous worker says that Dumont has a series of outbursts that create a climate of fear in the company; said outbursts of anger go as far as physically assaulting them by throwing objects at employees with force if “something didn't seem right to him.”

That is not all, the creative director besides punching walls and furniture when frustrated is still making unwanted sexual advances toward his colleagues. Of course, workers are upset and extremely exasperated with the situation, the source noted that Dumont appears to have made an effort to “improve himself” however things are too tense inside the studio.

According to the report, Ubisoft issued a statement from CEO Yves Guillemot, where he claims that Dumont and many other accused employees have been “cleared, or appropriately disciplined” for their alleged behaviour.

“Ubisoft takes all allegations extremely seriously. While I can’t comment on specific cases, I can assure you that any team member who has been named in a report and remains at Ubisoft has had their case rigorously reviewed and has either been cleared or has been appropriately disciplined and given an individualised action plan to support and monitor their progress.”

Are things going to change on Ubisoft or the work environment will keep going downhill?
