For quite some time, rumors have circulated about the existence of Mortal Kombat 12, which is said to be in full development at NetherRealm Studios.
Even though fans are clamoring for the return of the storied fighting series, the future of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and the other iconic "kombatants" remain unknown for the time being.
Mortal Kombat 12 has not been announced at the 2022 EVOs, contrary to the hopes of fans, and according to the words of series creator Ed Boon, fans will have to be patient a little longer before finding out what's simmering in the pot from the Chicago-based software house.
"I know so many of you are very excited about the announcement of NetherRealm Studios' next game, which will happen in due time," Boon says on Twitter, specifying, however, that "the priority now goes to the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat, which we plan to celebrate and focus on. The announcement of our next game will be disconnected from the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat."
PSA/FYI We know a lot of you are excited about the next NRS game announcement & it will happen in due time. But first it all about 30 years of Mortal Kombat. That's what we're going to celebrate and focus on.

Our next game announcement will be separate from MK30 ❤️
In short, the announcement of Mortal Kombat 12 (or whatever game the team is developing) is still a long way off, at least until the series' 30th-anniversary celebration is over. The 30th anniversary of the iconic franchise falls on Oct. 8, 2022.
