Oh no! Nvidia RTX 4090 its melting connectors

There goes another one…

Seems like Nvidia’s RTX 40 series is not having the best start. First, the 4090 Ti was cancelled after melting down power supplies and anything that was near it, then they “unlaunched” the RTX 4080 12GB because it wasn't named right and now the RTX 4090 is reportedly melting power connectors.

If you are not familiar with graphic cards, don’t worry in this case the only thing you should know is that the RTX 4090 is currently the world’s most powerful graphic card on the market, however, this comes with a price… burning down other pieces.

Incredible performance… incredible risk

This GPU runs 4k resolutions at an incredibly fast frame rate; also it delivers the lowest latency and best responsiveness as it's optimized to do so. Much geniality aside, it's imperative that the installation and performance are under proper conditions, otherwise they could create a disaster… like these cases where the GPU melts everything in its path.

According to several posts on social media and a full report by The Gamer, many players have reported some problems with the RTX 4090, which would have to do with the melting of its power connectors. A user posted on Reddit what happened with his GPU, which generated so much heat that it melted the connector on its connection ports.

The user noted that although the installation of the hardware resulted in a small deformation of the cable for size reasons, he considered this to be of no concern. He then started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 until he noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from his PC. Upon unplugging and opening it, he noticed that the power connections had melted.

By now, it is unknown if the user, using the recommended connection for the RTX 4090, which consists in having 12 of the 16 pins connected for 100% of the 4090's stated performance while having all 16 pins connected provides up to 30 percent overhead for overclocking.

The topic on Reddit made so much noise that a representative of Nvidia communicated directly with the affected user, however, there are no new details on the matter.

The only thing we can say is… Be careful with your GPUs.
