Good news! Nintendo's classic Switch controllers are now compatible with Apple devices.Previously announced, Apple's iOS 16 already offered compatibility with Nintendo's Switch Pro controller and Joy-Con. With the 16.1 update, new Nintendo’s classic controllers can also be used: the NES, SNES, Mega Drive, and N64 controllers!
Twitter user Steve Troughton-Smith discovered this compatibility. According to the discovery, the Super Nintendo controller shows up as a "SNES Controller" when in pairing mode. So it's safe to assume the Genesis and NES controllers would work similarly.
“Neat, iOS/tvOS 16.1 support the official BT/USB-C Super Nintendo controller for the Switch. I don’t have the N64 or NES versions to test with, but I believe they are supported now too.”
Now all Switch controllers can be paired with Apple devices, though finding the classic controllers may be a little tricky. They're available on Nintendo's online store but are frequently out of stock. This step forward is following in Steam's footsteps, which also includes support for Nintendo controllers.
