We are looking at a complete success

Remember when Sony said that Call of Duty was such a big game that if it ever turn into an Xbox’s exclusive they could die? Well, we kinda understand why they were so upset… the game is still demonstrating its power and how many people are still interested in the franchise.

I mean, it wasn’t a secret that Call of Duty is one of the most important franchises not only in the gaming industry but also in the entire entertainment industry. Every year, each new instalment manages to ship millions of units worldwide and even though they saw a decline in players and sales the past year, they always come back stronger.

That is why COD: Modern Warfare II, the direct sequel to the 2019 title, took the bar to another level and made history by generating multi-million dollar earnings in a matter of days.

A complete success

The latest title from Infinity Ward and Activision officially debuted last Friday, October 28 and in only 3 days on the market, it had sales that surpassed $800 MDD in revenue. This figure represents a new and important record for the franchise. To put things in perspective, their latest big success was 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which generated $775 MDD in 5 days.

What is even more incredible is that besides being the most lucrative debut of the entire franchise. It is also the entertainment product with the best launch of the year, as it had a better opening than high-profile feature films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness.

On the other hand, the game had an unbelievable debut on PS4 and PS5, as it had the largest launch of the franchise in the history of the PlayStation Store and also had the highest number of online players and hours played in the first 3 days after launch.

This, of course, did not go unnoticed by Activision and Johanna Faries, general manager of Call of Duty, thanked the community in an official statement. Likewise, she advanced that great things are coming for the franchise.

"Thank you, Call of Duty players, for making Modern Warfare 2's launch one for the record books as well as the highest-grossing entertainment opening of the year. It is our honour and privilege to deliver such a historic launch weekend for the best fans in the world.”
