Jack Burrows spoke at the microphones of Kiwi Talkz: the former Treyarch developer took the opportunity to explain what his former colleagues think about the initiatives pursued by Microsoft to acquire Activision, Blizzard, and King.

In harkening back to the discussions the community and industry insiders sparked about the future of Call of Duty on Xbox and Game Pass, the Black Ops Cold War level designer recalled chats in the corridors of Treyarch. It recounted how "my colleagues and I used to talk about the acquisition and daydream about how the merger between Microsoft and Activision would affect our daily lives."

A good deal for developers?

Burrows then explains that "we often reflected on this acquisition and, in talking about it among colleagues, wondered what changes there would be for us as developers if the deal succeeded or failed. We often thought about our future in one case or the other, such as whether we would enjoy greater freedom or things like that."

On the sidelines of the announcement of the $70 billion deal between Activision and Microsoft, Phil Spencer publicly expressed his intention to use this opportunity to bring back the old Activision and Blizzard IPs.

The far-reaching changes to Activision's current strategies suggested by Phil Spencer with these statements, however, for Burrows should not entail changes in the development of the COD shooter series, since for the former Treyarch, "Call of Duty is a money printing machine" and, as such, should continue to absorb much of the workforce and creative energies of Activision's subsidiaries.
