Back in November, Sony updated its official YouTube channel with the Play Like Never Before trailer, which contained several details on various titles, among them Final Fantasy XVI. Interestingly at the end of the video, there was a statement that read that the game will arrive on PlayStation 5 during the summer of 2023 and will remain a Sony exclusive for only six months.
If you ask me, that was very self-explanatory, however, nothing was confirmed and the official accounts speak of it like a circulating rumour. Well, Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy XVI producer and Square Enix legend is putting a "stop" to it.

Who said that?
Maybe Yoshida is not aware of November’s trailer or wants to conduct some kind of damage control, as he recently mentioned the PC version during a Final Fantasy stream on the Japanese video hosting site NicoNico.
“Nobody said a word about a PC version releasing. Why is it like a PC version is releasing 6 months later? Don’t worry about that, buy a PS5! (laughs) Sorry, I went overboard. We did our best, so please look forward to it.”

Did you know?: Final Fantasy XVI Rated M for… Hate crimes?!
Maybe strategy?
Actually, said November trailer ended up being pulled and re-uploaded back then, so maybe we are witnessing a very complicated strategy in order to secure the most sales when the games come out. In case you forgot, some PlayStation players don’t like when the exclusivity of their games ends and they tend to be pretty extreme; this happened with God of War and Marvel: Spiderman when both were announced for PC.
So, maybe Yoshida is trying to put the “rumours“ aside to don’t put on risk the game launch… at least until the official announcement comes out.
Remember, Final Fantasy XVI is coming out on June 22 for PlayStation 5 and maaaaybe PC. Remember to stay tuned here at Level Up for any updates!
