E3 2023 is months away from kicking off, and so far, we've heard more about companies not going than companies that will be at the event. In fact, new information indicates that 2 of the largest distributors in the industry jumped off the E3 2023 bandwagon.
According to IGN, SEGA, and Tencent sources, video game companies home to franchises such as Yakuza, Sonic the Hedgehog, Genshin Impact, and PUBG will not be at E3 2023. For its part, Tencent subsidiary Level Infinite will not be at E3 2023 either.
"After careful consideration, we have decided not to participate in E3 2023 as an exhibitor," SEGA said in a statement sent to IGN. “We are excited to share more information on announced and unannounced projects in the future.”
It is worth mentioning that IGN contacted other distributors to find out if they will go to E3 2023 or not. Bandai Namco refused to comment, assuring it would be present at Summer Game Fest 2023. For its part, Devolver Digital ―who usually holds its event in a parking lot near E3 but is not an official part of the event― assured that it will not go this year. , but who is already preparing their event for June.
The outlet also contacted Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Embracer Group, Epic Games, Square Enix, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. Games. None of these companies have responded.
IS E3 2023 IN DANGER?
This news comes less than 24 hours after it was confirmed that Ubisoft ―a company that had announced its presence at E3 2023― announced that it would be absent from the event to give rise to something of its own better. We must add that Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation will not be part of E3 2023 either.
Rumors surfaced this morning that E3 2023 is at risk of being canceled. Some reliable sources believe that this week it could be announced that the event will not take place.
