La Beta del título de Player First Games fue extremadamente popular, pero se desinfló al final

In an increasingly competitive and saturated market, multiplayer games have a harder time finding success. That's why experiences that hit the mark and manage to build a community must do everything possible to maintain player interest. Unfortunately, MultiVersus missed its chance, and it's unknown if it will be able to bounce back. What is certain is that its servers will temporarily close soon.

The beta of this successful fighting video game, which brings together Warner Bros. characters like DC Comics' Superman, Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, debuted in mid-2022 and immediately became a resounding success on all platforms, with thousands of simultaneous players.

Despite being free-to-play, the game became one of the best-selling games in the month of its trial version release and outshined other fighting games on Steam. Its popularity allowed it to win awards at The Game Awards and other ceremonies. Similarly, it created a competitive esports scene with tournaments offering attractive prizes for participants.

MultiVersus will temporarily shut down its servers soon

However, what goes up must come down, and the downfall of this free-to-play proposition was steep. After losing fans consistently for months, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games studio confirmed that the beta will close its servers on June 25.

Specifically, the online services of the open beta will no longer be available starting at 5:00 Pacific Time on Sunday, June 25. This means that, at the time of this publication, players have a few hours left to enjoy online battles.

While the servers will close until MultiVersus returns with the final version sometime next year, players will still be able to compete in offline matches and retain all the items and characters they acquired. However, it is no longer possible to download the game on consoles and PC.

Player First Games has promised that MultiVersus will return in 2024 with a complete version that will include new characters, stages, skins, game modes, and more content. The community is skeptical and believes it will never be able to regain the popularity it enjoyed in 2022. In the meantime, upset players are demanding refunds.

But tell us, what do you think about the temporary server shutdown? Let us know in the comments.

MultiVersus is available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
