Despite being a decade old, Grand Theft Auto V remains one of the best-selling video games. Without a doubt, a significant part of its enduring success is due to its multiplayer component: GTA Online. Unfortunately, it seems that a substantial portion of the community may lose access to this and other offerings.
A new clue suggests that GTA Online and other Rockstar Games experiences could lose support at the beginning of next year. Therefore, PC players should take the necessary precautions.
Rockstar Games will end support for its games on Windows 7 and Windows 8
It's worth remembering that Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. On the other hand, Windows 8.1 stopped receiving security updates and technical support on January 10, 2023. Now, Rockstar Games will follow suit, and its PC launcher will stop supporting these operating systems very soon.
"In light of Microsoft's end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems, Rockstar Games will no longer support these operating systems starting on January 30, 2024," the company said on its support website.
The company recommended users still using these operating systems to upgrade their computers to a compatible operating system, such as Windows 10 and Windows 11, as soon as possible to "avoid future service interruptions and ensure continued access to the latest platform features."
It's most likely that players on Windows 7 and Windows 8 will lose access to Grand Theft Auto Online and other games through the Rockstar Games Launcher. Users may also experience problems playing these titles on Steam or may be unable to play them at all since Valve will stop supporting these Microsoft operating systems starting on January 1, 2024.
If GTA Online loses support, a significant portion of the community may lose access to the game. In 2021, more than 100 million computers were still using Windows 7, so it's clear that many people will be affected by these measures.
