Before becoming a successful TV series, The Last of Us was going to have a movie thanks to Sam Raimi. We know that the filmmaker wrote the script for said production which, in the end, did not come to fruition and was canceled.
José Cañas, producer of Ghost House Pictures, made a revelation that caught the attention of gamers. He stated that he had the opportunity to read Raimi's script and that it is great. This generated excitement and disappointment in equal measure among fans of the Naughty Dog franchise, who wonder what the film would have been like.
The The Last of Us movie had a very good script
"I read this script. It was very... very .... good," Cañas stated on his social networks. The creative did not share further details about the canceled production; however, his brief statements were enough to arouse the curiosity of all fans of The Last of Us.
Some gamers were excited to know that the direction Raimi was going to take for the franchise was the right one regarding the narrative. At the same time, several fans were disappointed, as they would have loved to see the results. Likewise, there are people who are relieved that the film was canceled, as they feel it would have been a failure.
In case you don't remember, the film was in the hands of Screen Gems, Sony and Naughty Dog. Neil Druckmann, creative and vice president of the studio, revealed some time ago that the film was too focused on action, an approach that did not fit well with the franchise's narrative. For that reason, it was cancelled.
We also know that several actresses were interested in the role of Ellie. Among them were Maisie Williams, actress of Game of Thrones, and Kaitlyn Dever, actress of An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong, Justified and other productions, also wanted to be the lead.
Details about the canceled project have been kept under wraps for years. Cañas' statements are an important precedent, as this is the first time the film and its script have been discussed publicly.
