Today Nintendo caused quite a stir, as confirmed that it is already preparing the announcement of its next console. Unofficially, the Internet refers to the console as Nintendo Switch 2, as the successor to the current system, but apparently the name makes much more sense than that simple resemblance.
The company carried out a report in which it offered many details about its financial results, as well as for the first time talking more openly about its plans regarding its next console.

Will Nintendo's new console be similar to the Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo made it clear that it will make the announcement in the current fiscal year, without offering a precise date, but investors questioned the company's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, about whether it is a completely new console, to which Furukawa replied that a "next model of Nintendo Switch is the appropriate way to describe" the new system, as reported by MST Financial analyst David Gibson (via Twitter, X).
Furukawa's response is extremely interesting, as it seems to confirm that the next console would rather be a Nintendo Switch 2 rather than a change similar to what was seen in the generation change between the Nintendo GameCube and the Wii, for example.
Likewise, being a "next model of Nintendo Switch" strengthens the possibility that the console will offer some kind of backward compatibility with its predecessor.
