The industry continues in its consolidation stage, so studio buyouts are still the order of the day. Nintendo joined this trend and invested to become the new owner of Shiver Entertainment, a studio affected by the Embracer Group disaster.

The purchase will help the Switch company to have more third-party games on its consoles, as Shiver Entertainment specializes in making ports. The purchase surprised more than one Nintendo fan, as the studio made one of the most controversial ports for the hybrid console.

As you know, the outlook for Embracer Group is not at all favorable after a multi-million dollar deal fell through. Since then, the company has had to cancel many projects, close several studios and sell some of its teams.

Nintendo decided to pull out its wallet and buy Shiver Entertainment, a Florida-based studio that belonged to Embracer Group. The developer was in charge of bringing Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to Switch, with acceptable and dubious quality results, respectively.

Thanks to this purchase, Nintendo guarantees that more third-party games will come to Switch and its successor, as Shiver Entertainment will continue to focus on making ports. Nintendo did not disclose the figure it paid for said studio.

We only know that the purchase involves 100% of its shares and that it will therefore become a new subsidiary of the Japanese company. It is not known if it is currently working on any projects for Nintendo consoles.

“Going forward, even after it becomes a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver's focus will remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo detailed.
