Dragon Ball Daima will be released in a few months, but some fans of the franchise remain skeptical. Some are not happy with the new anime of the saga, as they would have preferred to see the long-awaited continuation of Dragon Ball Super.
On the other hand, there are also some people who believe that Daima is too similar to Dragon Ball GT, a series that many do not consider part of the canon. This is because in both series, Goku becomes a child again and has all kinds of adventures in many different places.
Akio Iyoku, producer of the franchise, knows that comparisons were inevitable. For this reason, he explained why Daima will actually be different from GT and what they did to differentiate the series.
Dragon Ball Daima will be distinguished from Dragon Ball GT
In some of his latest statements, Akira Toriyama, the creator of the franchise, stated that Dragon Ball Daima is a very special project, as it is part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the popular anime and manga series.
He emphasized that one of the goals of the production is to bring the franchise to a new audience unfamiliar with the adventures of Goku and company. Additionally, he mentioned that the anime will resolve some of the saga's mysteries. However, he did not speak about the similarities with Dragon Ball GT.
Iyoku reassured fans worried about the similarities between the two series, promising that Daima will be different from GT as it will tell a new story that will add to the franchise. For this reason, he asked fans not to worry and to enjoy the anime when it becomes available. He decided not to share more details on the matter, as he prefers not to spoil any surprises from the series.
“I understand that, looking at Goku being small, you would think of GT. A lot of people are thinking, 'Maybe Goku is young again, like from [GT].' We want to emphasize that this is a whole different story.
"We would like everyone to think about it and have their own thoughts on what the story is, but with the first teaser from today, we’re keeping it all hush-hush so that everybody is enjoying it and thinking about it. That’s where we’re at right now,” the producer commented.
