The PlayStation 5 Pro promises enhanced quality and performance for games that are specifically optimized for its hardware, with special labels indicating improvements for these titles when played on the new Sony console. However, the rest of the PS5 library won't be left behind, thanks to a feature included in the hardware. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that all games will run at 60 frames per second or higher.
Thousands of Games Will See Improvements on PS5 Pro, But There's a Catch
In a statement shared on X by user "Zuby_Tech_Pro," Toshimasa Aoki, PlayStation's product manager, confirmed that over 8500 PS4 and PS5 games will receive various improvements on PS5 Pro, thanks to the Game Boost feature. This is great news for games with variable frame rates, as it will offer more stability and a smoother visual experience when running on the new console.
However, not all games will benefit from the PS5 Pro upgrades. Aoki clarified that games locked at 30 fps will remain the same, as it is a decision made by the game developers, not Sony: "PS5 Pro has a feature called Game Boost. Even if it's not a PS5 Pro-compatible version, if the game uses variable refresh rate or variable resolution, it can be displayed more stably, even if set to a high setting. However, for games locked at 30 fps, it cannot be supported unless the cap is removed."
In related news, a report revealed that pre-orders for PS5 Pro have not sold out in major markets like the U.S. and U.K. It is believed that the $699.99 USD price tag and the lack of a substantial number of next-gen games may have influenced gamers' decision to hold off on purchasing the new Sony console.
