Konami announces Castlevania: Awakening in the Moonlight, featuring an original story and set for release in 2025

The new project in the franchise may not be what fans were expecting

In recent years, Konami has been revisiting its catalog of franchises not only to remember them but also to bring several projects out of retirement. One of these is Castlevania, which has seen a resurgence through animations and retro game collections. Soon, a new project will join this lineup, though it may not be exactly what many fans were hoping for.

Through its social media channels, the Japanese company revealed Castlevania: Awakening in the Moonlight, the next project in the series, which will feature a completely original story and is set for release in 2025.

What is Castlevania: Awakening in the Moonlight about?

For fans who grew up with the series through video games and hoped for a new installment, the bad news is that this is a theatrical experience. Surprisingly, Castlevania: Awakening in the Moonlight is a musical.

According to the project’s official page, it will be staged at the Grand Takarazuka Theater and the Takarazuka Tokyo Theater from June 7 to July 20, 2025 and from August 16 to September 28, 2025, featuring actors Eternal Teru See and Starry Sky Misaki in the lead roles.

As for the script, Keiji Okada will be responsible for the adaptation, and interestingly, it will be a completely original story. Naturally, no additional details were shared, so those interested will need to attend the musical to discover more.

Of course, Castlevania: Awakening in the Moonlight may not be the project that fans of the franchise have been longing for, but it does show that Konami hasn’t forgotten about the series, which could potentially lead to a new game release in the future.
