According to the report, Sony experienced overall growth during the first half of the fiscal year thanks to its gaming and services division. The company revealed that PlayStation 5 has sold 65.6 million units worldwide as of September 30.

This means that Sony sold 3.8 million consoles over the last 3 months. Despite a decrease of 1.1 million units compared to the same period last fiscal year, the company celebrated the figures achieved.

The positive results are attributed to an increase in third-party game sales, DLC, and PlayStation Plus performance. Sony expected its net sales to be $28.3 billion by March 2025, but due to strong sales, it now expects to reach $30 billion.

Initially, it forecast operating income of $2.1 billion, but now it expects income of $2.3 billion. Because of this, the company considers PlayStation’s profitability to have grown in recent months.

How are PlayStation games and services performing?

In its report, Sony revealed that PlayStation Network registered 116 million active users as of September 30. This represents an increase of 9 million from the 107 million users in the same period last fiscal year.

Regarding games, PS5 and PS4 together sold 77.7 million units over the past 3 months, representing growth of 10.1 million units. More specifically, 5.3 million were first-party titles, and 70% of sales were digital. Lastly, Sony proudly announced that Astro Bot, its latest PlayStation 5 exclusive, has already sold 1.5 million units worldwide.
