Though Pokémon game announcements may be scarce this year, The Pokémon Company is making waves with corporate developments in 2024. Recently, The Pokémon Company unveiled new subsidiaries and shared additional information on one of them.
In March 2024, The Pokémon Company introduced its new subsidiary, The Pokémon Works, operating alongside the development studio ILCA. However, it wasn’t until this week that The Pokémon Company formally introduced the company.

What is The Pokémon Works?
The Pokémon Works is a subsidiary company established by The Pokémon Company in collaboration with ILCA, a Japanese developer known for its work on Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as well as titles like SAND LAND and One Piece Odyssey.
According to an introductory letter by company director Takuya Iwasaki, The Pokémon Works focuses solely on the franchise, aiming to “connect the world with Pokémon” through games and cross-generational, cross-border services.
The company also aims to provide “a more realistic and immersive Pokémon experience.” This vague description hints at a goal similar to that of Niantic with Pokémon GO.

What Projects is The Pokémon Works Working On?
The new company has not disclosed many details yet but shared a message alongside an image of silhouettes of three iconic Pokémon: Snorlax, Gengar, and Pikachu.
“Our goal is to provide a rich experience that connects the world of Pokémon to fans, regardless of generation, country, or region. As a team solely dedicated to Pokémon, we are a group of friends who love Pokémon and continuously hone our skills and creativity to develop not only games but services like Pokémon HOME,” says The Pokémon Works on its official website.
In the same presentation, the company admitted that development can be challenging but shared that these difficulties fuel their passion for sharing the magic of Pokémon.

What Unannounced Projects Did the Teraleak Reveal?
The recent leak, dubbed the “teraleak,” has impacted The Pokémon Company and its partners by exposing upcoming Pokémon projects. One leaked title is Synapse, a collaboration between Game Freak and ILCA that’s rumored to be a multiplayer game where players can ride Pokémon and assist them in battles. While the project is said to be active, there has been no official announcement.
